Activity night teaches about Advent

The Advent Kids Activity Night at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church ,November 29 2019, ushered in the season with an evening of fun and learning.

The children and helpers gathered at the back of the church, and then slowly made their way to the front as they heard, meditated on, and sang about God’s promises. At each stop they read and discussed a portion of the Arch book (CPH) The Christmas Promise, added a candle to the wreath banner, read a prophecy directly from the Scriptures, sang a related Advent hymn, and did a little fun activity that slowly populated the Nativity set. Among the activities in the sanctuary, the children periodically headed downstairs for crafts—making advent wreaths and cookie decorating.

Advent themes like encouragement from God’s Word while we wait, singing so we remember and rejoice, messianic promises, personal Bible reading during the Advent season, and needing the Light of God’s Word to shine in our darkness were all introduced and reinforced—a lot of good in an evening of Advent fun!
